In England, Verne writes in his diary . . . .

02-17-45

Flew a camera gunnery mission this p.m. The formation didn’t show up but we had a P-47 pull a few attacks on us. Saw him pull a lot of stunts and had a fair time. Had 17 men onboard.1 Major2 is pretty good pilot, but throws ship around too much.

Notes & Commentary

1 Eight men in flight suits and with parachutes in addition to the normal nine-man aircrew must have produced a very crowded B-17.

2 Maj. James O. Gross, the crew’s new pilot.
