In England, Verne writes in his diary . . . .

Mailed Air Medal home via air mail and also sent Aileen Valentine’s Day greetings by cable. Had more training today. Several crews from squadron landed in France when their gas was low. Will probably hold up our passes several days. Am worried about Ken1 not writing. There have been plenty of rough raids lately and I well know anything can happen. Pray for the best. Received lovely Valentine cards from the folks and some very swell pictures of my son. Sure proud of him.

Notes & Commentary

1 Verne’s brother-in-law, 1st Lt. Kenneth E. Cline, a B-24 pilot stationed at Wendling with the 392nd Bombardment Group (H), 577th Bombardment Squadron (H).
